Sing! (#46)

And when they had sung an hymn, they went out into the mount of Olives (Matthew 26:30).

Wouldn’t you like to know the name of the hymn?  I would!  It must have been a song of praise and assurance of God’s goodness…perhaps?

Such a song would be appropriate in the unfolding circumstances – Christ’s passion and crucifixion.

The singing of songs of faith and trust in God works wonders and may be the panacea you need to endure difficult situations.

Singing promotes well-being and expresses joy.  (Why do you think there are so many bathroom tenors, altos, sopranos, etc.?)

The Christian faith provides so much material to sing about.  There is the salvation of mankind, the hope Christ gives, thanksgiving for answered prayers, the fellowship with God and other believers, just to name a few.

You may not consider yourself to be the greatest of singers, but you can still sing to the Lord if no one else wants to hear you.  You can also surround yourself with songs which bring pleasure, encouragement and inspiration.

One songwriter wishes for “a thousand tongues” to sing the praises of Christ.  I am thinking a thousand could never be enough to give Him the praises he deserves!

Since we are all blessed with one, let’s use it to the best of our ability.

And sing, sing, sing!
